This week I was able to space out my assignments a bit better throughout the week, so I wasn’t procrastinating all of it, but this has also been a difficult week. Going into it I thought design would be a bit easier for me to do, but I just could not wrap my brain around the concepts/principles of design. I was able to complete the assignments, but I still don’t have a very good understanding of it all. I think what I made turned out to be good though.

This week I had done the required Tuesday Daily Create which I was happy with how it turned out. I hate to admit though that I had to look up what an epitaph was to better understand the assignment. This was fairly easy, especially since the felt letter boards were provided to us.

I also did the movie pitch Daily Create this week. I had some difficulty finding a good picture of Nicolas Cage, but I think it all turned out okay.

The last one I did was the hand-lettered quote Daily Create. this one was fun and easy to do. I thought the quote I chose fit with the apocalyptic theme of the class, so I was really happy with how it turned out.
My Design Reflection and my DesignBlitz were also completed this week. Both of these were fun to do, but they were also a bit difficult. As I said before, I’m not entirely able to comprehend the concepts of design, so it’s a bit challenging to have to write about them. Exploring Canva was fun, but I wasn’t able to really use it this week. I’m hoping I’ll be able to use it more in the future! The videos were also a lot of fun to watch, especially since David Carson was so funny! The DesignBlitz was hard for me to do, but I’m hoping I was able to capture the principles correctly in it.
The two assigned Design Assignments this week were a lot of fun to do! The Alternate Book Cover Assignment was a lot of fun and it was super quick and easy for me to do! While I’m not able to really understand the concepts and principles of design in words, I think I was able to grasp the concept of Contrast fairly well. I used this to my advantage by making my alternate book cover as shown. I love how it turned out!
The Character Design Assignment was fun too! It took me forever to make her on the website, but I enjoyed it overall. When I was thinking of what kind of character she would be, I hadn’t really thought of what she would look like. I hadn’t even realized this until I was trying to make her! Ultimately, if I had created her personality to be the type of person to blend in, I figured a plain look would work for her just fine. I also liked the background picture I had chosen for her since the color scheme seemed to fit well.
For one of my extra Design Assignments I chose the Generate Cool Letters assignment. I had used the website to find a cool font and then I was able to add flowers coming out of the text to give it more feeling. I had mentioned in my blog about this that I wanted to give it a feeling of her character growing.
The other Design Assignment I had chosen was the Create a Logo assignment. This one I did for more personal reasons, so I was super happy with this assignment. I tried to keep the logo simple, but I’m pretty terrible at keeping things simple, so I don’t know if I did that quite right. Either way, I’m super happy with how it turned out!
I was super happy this week that we were forming groups! However, it ended up being a bit more difficult then I thought it would be. I was a member of two groups on Saturday, but then ended up not being in any group since people kept switching around. I didn’t really want to complain to much about all of the jumping ship that happened, but it was also incredible frustrating. I’m not sure where everyone else is since there is only 3 groups now to my knowledge. It will be interesting to see where these groups will go now. Hopefully, there won’t be anymore mishaps and we can get this show on the road! 🙂
Question of the Week:
Group dynamics can be tricky.
What’s been the most successful group you’ve been a part of and what made it work?
Group dynamics are always soooo much fun to work around. I’ve had successful groups and some not so successful groups. I find that what makes groups work is the willingness for it to work. And also an established leader. I have found that if no one steps up to lead the group and organize things, things will not get done or at least not done very well. However, even with a leader, things can go awry if people don’t actually want to get things done. If someone does not want to participate, they tend to not participate. The rest of the group then has to accommodate for the lack of that person. If a group is able to get together and organize themselves and the work, things will get done and they will get done right.
That’s the end of this week! Not my best week, but it’s done and I can look forward to the next! 🙂
